Clinical Applicator

The PGENI Clinical Applicator tool utilizes pharmacogenetics in patient management at the point of care to optimize drug selection and monitoring for individual patients. Similar to the PGENI Formulary Tool, the clinical applicator tools are distinctive clinical decision trees that integrate pharmacogenetic information at the individual patient level for prioritization of therapy and enhanced surveillance for adverse drug effects. Rather than looking at the genetic profile of a nation or ethnic group, a patient’s pharmacogenetic laboratory results will be used to create a personalized pharmacotherapy plan with unique drug selection, doses, and monitoring parameters. A common example might be the individualized dose of warfarin, an anticoagulant medication, using clinical information, including pharmacogenetic parameters, to select a dose that differs from the standardized dose used for many indications.
